Sunday afternoon (after Christmas), we decided to head to Galveston for the afternoon/evening to eat dinner and look at all the damage from Hurricane Ike. First of all...when we drove through High Island, it was CRAZY (I don't know a better word) to see so many beach houses totally gone! All you saw were the posts where the houses used to be. There were several houses still standing, but they were damaged pretty badly. The water was so much closer to the road...the sand dune blocking the view of the beach was also gone. It was just eerie. Even Galveston had a different feel to it even though we stayed mostly on the sea wall, and there were lots of restaurants/hotels open. We ate at Landry's which was delicious, and drove around for a while trying to find a Starbucks (long story)
These are pictures of us on the Ferry. It was dark by the time we got to Galveston, so I didn't take any other pictures. It was cold on the ferry, but it wouldn't have been as bad without the wind!
